Passport in hand, and off we go from Houston.

Good morning, Europe! But first, coffee, watching the coast of France slide by on the flight map.

My connection in Munich gave me just enough time for a pretzel and wurst.

Then a short Lufthansa hop to Nice, where the I ♥ Nice sign was waiting, along with a bright orange classic car. Already acting like I own the place... and the car.

Let's face it, sleeping on an overnight flight is tough, so pack your patience. The moment the flight attendants turn the lights down, shut your eyes and try to sleep, even if you don't feel like it. An eye mask really helps me drift off.
Munich has two immigration screenings, and the signage is confusing, even for frequent travelers. Step 1 is pre-registration at the kiosks inside the airport (non-EU passports, ages 12 and up), not something you do before your trip. After that, finding Step 2 and your next gate takes some hunting, so give yourself extra time.
Munich's departure boards work like a European train station. Flights are listed by departure time, not alphabetically by city, so the board can look like a jumbled mess. Look for your flight number from your boarding pass instead of your destination. Bonus: the last column shows the walking time to your gate, including the wait at security and passport control.
If you're hungry and have at least an hour, grab some wurst, or even better, schnitzel and a Hofbräu beer. Prost!
Lufthansa often buses passengers out to the plane, and you'll need to manage stairs to board. If you have accessibility concerns, let me know so I can work with the airline to accommodate you.
Arriving in Nice? Once you exit the airport, follow the signs for your ride. Taxis, private chauffeurs, shared rides and the tram are all in one area, so following the signs saves your legs from backtracking and gets you to the right place.
Let's talk taxis. Like many European cities, Nice has both licensed taxis and unofficial ones. Know which is which before you get in, and you'll save yourself from a taxi scam. I remind my clients about this, but it still pays to be careful.
